MNT Pocket Reform Is A Fully Customizable, Mini Linux Laptop With A Seriously Cool Design – TechTheLead

MNT Research, the makers of the MNT Reform fully customizable Linux laptop, are now introducing a new option – and if you love vaporwave, you’re gonna love this design.

Meet the Pocket Reform, a 7-inch mini-laptop with a bulky, edgy purple design that sends you thinking of vaporwave videos or 80s scifi.

However, even beyond the great looks and the appealing mechanical keyboard, the Pocket Reform offers plenty, especially for those who care about sustainability.

The Pocket Reform not only uses open source hardware and a Linux OS, but it has a modular, upgradeable design, where the case is recyclable and its parts reusable. You can even print your own case for it and mod it after your heart’s desire.

On the software side, it’s a dream for security enthusiasts and people who want to step away from big tech.

The Pocket Reform has Mozilla’s Thunderbird as a mail client, and comes with apps like Mastodon, Telegram and LibreOffice.

Not even gaming was forgotten, though the only people who can play on the Mnt Pocket Reform are old school gamers and nostalgia addicts. This tiny laptop comes with popular emulators like DOSBox, VICE, Snes9x and DuckStation.

As for connectivity, even though it’s a pocket laptop, not much was lost into making it so portable – it has WiFi, can use 4G and 5G WWAN modems, and comes with micro HDMI and USB-C ports.

Still, don’t expect this one to go toe to toe with regular laptops on the market. Being designed as an on-the-go tool for places where lugging a big laptop around doesn’t make sense, its hardware wasn’t designed to top any benchmarks.

You can choose your processor and RAM from a list that includes a NXP i.MX8M Plus with 4 or 8 GB of DDR4 ram, a Raspberry Pi CM4 with 8GB of DDR4 ram or a NXP Layerscape LS1028A, which can be paired with either 8 or 16 GB of DDR4 RAM. As for storage, you might wanna keep your work in the cloud or take advantage of the NVMe SSD slot of up to 2TB, cause this baby only carries up to 128 GB eMMC flash memory.

The 7-inch display is a full HD one at 310 ppi and you have the option of connecting an up to 4K monitor via micro HDMI.

The only thing left to know is the pricing. The original MNT Reform is  €1,099.00 on their website ($1,160), so that could give you a ballpark. MNT wants to open pre-orders for a beta version of this small Linux laptop in July, so that enthusiasts can help contribute to it before a larger launch.
